
The Arcata Tigers and Fortuna Huskies continued their impressive start to the new season with victories on Saturday and Monday, respectively.
The Tigers capped a good opening-weekend road trip with a 70-37 win at Ukiah and improved to 2-0.
Senior Luke Moxon led Arcata in scoring for the second straight day and finished with a team-high 12 points in the win, while Lucian Rodriguez also impressed and added 10 points.
Jonah Morgan chipped in nine points.
The Tigers will try to keep their fast start going when they make the short trek to play in the McKinleyville tournament later this week.
Arcata opens against San Lorenzo (1-0) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
The Huskies, meanwhile, welcomed Hayfork to Fortuna High on Monday and won 81-59.
With the victory, the Fortuna hoys improved to 3-0.
The Huskies dominated the boards and out-rebounded the visitors 46-19.
Gavin Mayberry led another balanced offensive performance by the Huskies and scored a team-high 12 points, while Jack Stacy added 13 points and five assists and Jace Barsanti had eight points and had five assists.
As a team, the Huskies had 22 assists in the win.
Hunter Reback also impressed for Fortuna and finished with eight points and nine rebounds, while Cage Collins and Bryson Gilliam each chipped in seven points and Chandler Crenshaw and Blayne Barrote each scored six.
