Balanced offense leads Jacks to victory in home opener

The Lumberjacks showcased a balanced offense in their home opener in men’s basketball on Tuesday night, with five players scoring in double digits in a victory over Simpson.

The Jacks won the game 84-62 and improved to 2-1 on the young season.

Kyle Frelow, who had a good weekend in the Jacks’ season-opening tournament in Washington, finished the game with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Rob Diaz III also continued his fast start to the new season and scored a game-high 19 points, while Kalib LaCount added 15 points and a team-best five assists.

Josiah Sanders with 13 points and Jamal Briscoe with 11 points also scored in double digits.

The first half was pretty close and the Jacks led 39-33 at the break, but they pulled away in the second period and outscored the visitors 45-29 on the way to victory.

The game was the season opener for Simpson.

Next up, the Jacks will host Western Oregon next Tuesday night at 7.
