South Fork wins big at Calistoga, closes in on NCS playoff spot

The South Fork Cubs all but assured themselves of a North Coast Section playoff berth with their second straight win on Friday night.

The Cubs, who are the defending NCS eight-person Division-1 champions, traveled to Calistoga and came away with a 38-8 victory.

The win lifts South Fork to 2-2 in the North Central League II and 2-5 overall.

Wesley Way once again led the way for the Cubs with another strong performance in wet conditions.

The senior quarterback ran for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns and accounted for 20 of his team’s points.

Way also passed for 65 yards.

Boden Bero-Vanmeter also impressed and rushed for 71 yards and a pair of TDs, while accounting for 18 of his team’s points.

Daniel Furman had a big night on both sides of the ball, rushing for 69 yards and finishing with 14 tackles.

The wet conditions affected both teams, although the opportunistic Cubs forced more turnovers than they committed.

“All in all, it was a good game,” South Fork head coach Karl Terrell said.

The Cubs will close out the regular season when they host Stuart Hall in Miranda next Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Stuart Hall of San Francisco is the top-ranked eight-person team in the NCS, according to MaxPreps.

South Fork is ranked No. 4 in the section, but defeated No. 5 Swett last week.
