Big showdown at St. Bernard’s highlights busy weekend for JV teams

By Ray Hamill — The last two remaining undefeated JV football teams in the H-DNL will face off this weekend in a big showdown at St. Bernard’s on Saturday morning.

The host Crusaders will entertain Fortuna in a game where something has to give, as both teams carry an impressive 5-0 record into the big clash.

Both teams are coming off a bye last week.

Saturday morning’s game is one of four this weekend featuring all eight H-DNL JV programs.

The Ferndale Wildcats will travel to McKinleyville High on Friday night to play the Arcata Tigers, as they look to make it three straight wins.

The Cats improved to 2-0 in the Little 4 and 4-2 overall with a 28-6 win at McKinleyville last week and their only two losses this season have come against Fortuna and St. Bernard’s.

Also on Friday night, Eureka plays at Del Norte in a non-conference game.

The Loggers improved to 4-1-1 with a 16-0 win at Biggs last weekend and their only loss all season came at powerhouse Windsor two weeks ago.

The Warriors, meanwhile, are 3-2-1 and had a bye last week.

And rounding out a busy weekend for the younger players, on Saturday night Hoopa will play at McKinleyville.

Last weekend, McKinleyville fell to conference leaders Ferndale.
