The St. Bernard’s Crusaders got back to winning ways in Tennessee on Friday evening, defeating Grace Baptist Academy 23-10.
Two weeks after suffering their first loss of the season against Ferndale and one week after a bye, St. Bernard’s opened a two-game road trip in Chattanooga and came away with the victory, officially making them playoff eligible.
Junior Tyler Hinrichs accounted for two of the Crusaders’ three touchdowns, throwing for one and rushing for another, as the Crusaders improved to 5-1.
Hinrichs also kicked a 47-yard field goal, capping a big all-around game for the standout and solidifying his reputation as one of the best kickers in the North Coast Section right now.
Garrett Shanahan also was instrumental in the win.
The sophomore threw for a touchdown and had a TD catch.
Jahseree Bailey led a strong defensive performance for the team and finished with four sacks in a dominating night on that side of the ball.
Quentin Ikeya also pulled in a touchdown reception from Shanahan.
The Crusaders will remain in Tennessee for another week and will play Harding Academy in Memphis next Thursday.
The St. Bernard’s JVs did not play this weekend, but will be in action against Fortuna next week in a battle of two unbeaten teams.
