Less than halfway through the 2024 H-DNL girls golf season, it’s going to be difficult to stop Arcata’s Madyson Nelson from repeating as league champion.

On Monday, Nelson won for the third time in three rounds of league play to cement her lead in the season standings.

The Tigers senior shot a round of 98 to take the victory at the Redwood Empire Golf & Country Club in Fortuna, beating the field by an impressive 12 strokes.

Remarkably it was her second double-digit win this season and it stretched her lead in the league standings to 25 strokes with four rounds of league play remaining.

Nelson also won by 13 in the league-opening round at Beau Pre two weeks ago and followed that with a three-stroke win at Baywood last week.

Del Norte’s Bria Larson had the second best round of the day on Monday and shot a 110, followed by McKinleyville’s Addie Morrison and St. Bernard’s Ingrid Monaghan, who each carded a 111.

Nelson’s Arcata teammate Lucia Hernandez also had a good round and shot a 113 to round out the top five on the day.

While Nelson’s charge towards a second straight league title looks like it will be difficult to stop, the race for the top seven and all-league spots is shaping up to be an exciting one.

After three rounds, just five strokes separate the next seven spots in the standings.

Morrison and Larson are deadlocked for second (219), with Monaghan one stroke further back (220).

Hernandez (221), St. Bernard’s Estella Monaghan (223), Arcata’s Lily Cunningham (223) and McKinleyville’s Jaxin Bartoo (224) round out the top eight.

Fortuna’s Mariah Bravo had the sixth best round of the day on Monday and shot a 115, followed by Estella Monaghan (117), Cunningham (118), and Arcata’s Toni Diaz (123) and Julie Omaha (123).
