By Ray Hamill — College of the Redwoods quarterback Bryton Livingston has been named the Northern California Football Conference American Division Offensive Player of the Week after his record-tying performance last weekend.
Livingston, who was making his first home start for the Corsairs, frustrated the Hartnell defense all afternoon in a comprehensive 63-18 win for Redwoods.
The CR quarterback threw for five touchdowns and ran in for another and his outstanding performance did not go unnoticed.
Livingston completed 18 of 23 passes for 262 yards and the five TDs, and also found the end zone on a 21-yard run on his only carry of the day.
According to the NCFC website, Livingston’s “accuracy and playmaking ability were instrumental in his team’s victory.”
Livingston has gotten his CR career off to a flying start.
The Corsairs also defeated Merced 33-7 on the road on opening weekend.
“He was very efficient,” CR head coach Jason White said of Saturday’s performance. “I was impressed with his pocket presence.”
Through two games Livingston is tied for second in the state with six TD passes and is leading the way on a CR team that is the fourth highest scoring team in the state right now.
The Eagle Point, Ore., native tied a program record with his five touchdown passes against Hartnell.
And his early-season performances have help ease any potential concerns of replacing Max Hough, who was outstanding in his two seasons as quarterback with the team, setting several career program records before moving on.
Livingston and the Corsairs will try to keep their impressive start to the season going when they travel to play Monterey Peninsula on Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Monterey Peninsula is the highest scoring team in the state and should present a serious challenge to a CR defense that has dominated its first two opponents of the season.
The Corsairs will return home next week to host San Jose at the Redwood Bowl in Arcata.
