Once again the local community showed up in big numbers to help support College of the Redwoods athletics at the Corsairs’ annual sports dinner and auction.
The fundraiser was held on Aug. 15.
And according to college officials, the Corsairs raised approximately $245,000 at the event for their athletic programs.
“The event was a tremendous success,” CR Athletic Director Bob Brown said. “And on behalf of our entire department we are sincerely grateful to our entire community for all their support whether it was through donations of items, volunteering for the event or purchasing an auction item, or a direct donation to the programs.
“We continue to be amazed how supportive this great community is and look forward to an extremely successful school year in athletics and academics at CR.”
This year’s annual event also honored CR wrestling, a program the local community college brought back last year.
“It was also such an honor for us to be able to recognize both the first generation and successes of the initial CR wrestling athletes and have them passing the torch and support to our current men’s and women’s wrestling program,” Brown added.
The CR men competed on the mats for the first time in four decades last year and also fielded a women’s team for the first time in school history, and both programs enjoyed plenty of immediate success under head coach Brandon Benvenuti.
