After dropping their series opener to the Solano Mudcats on Tuesday night, the Humboldt Crabs rallied to beat them in back-to-back games at the Arcata Ball Park to take the series.
The Mudcats shut out the Crabs 10-0 to open the series, with the Crabs then won 7-3 on Wednesday night before taking Thursday’s rubber match 5-1.
Ty Kennedy had the hot bat for the home team in Wednesday’s win and finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Reigning team MVP Billy Ham added two hits and two RBIs in the win, while Troy Harding had a triple and Jehee Lee had a double.
Max Hippenstell got the win on the mound in relief of starter Logan Saloman, throwing three innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
The hard-hitting Crabs would carry the momentum into Thursday’s holiday showdown and had three doubles in the victory.
Team veteran Caleb Ruiz got the win on the hill.
The former St. Bernard’s and College of the Redwoods standout, who is in his fourth season with the Crabs, threw six innings and gave up just three hits and two walks while striking out five.
The win was Ruiz’s second straight and his fourth on the season as he improved to 4-2.
Kennedy continued to shine and led the team at the plate for the second straight day, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Ham also had two hits, including a double, which was his sixth of the summer.
Jett Ruby was 2-for-4 in the lead-off spot and also had a double on his way to scoring a pair of runs.
Since dropping six straight road games two weeks ago, the Crabs have now six of their last eight games and are 16-10 on the summer.
The Mudcats dropped to 10-10.
The Crabs will continue a busy portion of their schedule with three road this weekend at the Medford Rogues.
Game one is set for Friday night at 7:35 p.m. and will be streamed live on the club’s YouTube channel as well as being broadcast live on local ESPN radio (107.3 FM and 1340 AM).
This is the last scheduled road trip of the summer for the local club, which returns to the Arcata Ball Park next week to host the Alameda Anchors on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
