Trent Keys helped get the Humboldt Crabs back on track with a two-run walk-off home run at the Arcata Ball Park on Wednesday night.
Keys’ second home run of the summer lifted the Crabs to a 7-6 win in an exciting back-and-forth showdown against the Athletic Edge Express.
The victory secured a two-game series sweep for the Crabs, who were coming off a tough winless six-game road trip last week.
Keys finished the game 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, a walk and four RBIs and also scored three runs.
Former St. Bernard’s Crusader Caleb Ruiz got the win on the mound in relief.
Ruiz threw five innings and gave up up just two earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six.
He improved to 3-2 on the summer.
Jehee Lee also had two hits in the win and was 2-for-4, while Javier Felix and Michael Mckernan each also had a double.
The Crabs opened the series with an 11-2 win on Tuesday night to end their six-game losing streak.
They quickly took control of the game with seven runs in the opening two innings and would add three more in the sixth.
They out-hit the visitors 10-3 for the game, led by Victor Castaneda, who finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBIs and three runs.
Jett Ruby and Lee each also had two hits, including a triple by the latter.
Wit the two wins, the Crabs improved to 12-8, while the Athletic Edge Express remain winless on the summer at 0-8.
Next up, the Crabs will host the Lincoln Potters in a three-game series this weekend, with game one set for Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Potters swept three games from the Crabs in Lincoln last week, but two of those losses were by just one run.
