After a year away from racing, David Henderson returned with a bang on what was a busy weekend of racing action at the Redwood Acres Raceway.

Henderson won the 2022 Late Models championship but did not compete last year.

However, he returned to the track on Friday night and took first place in the main event while driving Brandon Barnwell’s car.

The second weekend of the 2024 season featured the late models, Legends, bombers and mini stocks on Friday night, with the Legends and bombers in action on Saturday, along with the popular boat racing to cap a busy weekend at the local track.

The weekend’s races were held in honor of Craig Perrone, the late owner of DelReka Distributing who was a strong supporter of racing at Redwood Acres Raceway and numerous local drivers.

Dennis DelBiaggio placed second to Henderson on Friday, followed by Jerry Peterson, Romeo Venza and Ken Hallis.

Also on Friday night, the Legends main saw a thrilling cat-and-mouse duel for the lead all race long with Landen Green holding off Brandon White for the checkered flag.

Tyler Krupa placed third followed by Mike Doss and Kai Lovell.

Jordan Krupa took Friday’s main in the bombers division and was followed across the line by Brayden Carnes, Chris Sarvinski, Doug Way and Kadence Toland.

Jarrett Mayo dominated the mini stock feature and took the victory, with Gary Klinetobe, Cole Peterson and Allison Mayo rounding out the top four finishers.

Friday’s heat race winners were Henderson in the late models, Lovell and Dannie Carpenter in the Legends, Jarrett Mayo in the mini stocks and Krupa in the bombers.

Fast time for each division were Henderson with a 16.000 in the late models, White with a 17.512 in the Legends, Krupa with a 18.175 for the bombers and Jarrett Mayo with a 19.063 for the mini stocks.

The racing continued on Saturday night, with Brandon White taking first in the Legends main event.

Mike Doss finished second, followed by Tyler Krupa, Dannie Carpenter and Kai Lovell,

It was also a good night for Brayden Carnes, who took his first main event win in the bombers over Doug Way and Tim Ratzlaff.

Doss and Way were the heat race victors, while Green’s 17.620 and Carnes’ 18.551 were fast times for the Legends and bombers.

Ryan David was the winner of the boat race.

The Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series, Spears Modified Series and NorCal Legends Series will be at Redwood Acres Raceway for the next night of racing action on July 27.
