By Ray Hamill — The end of another school year means it’s almost time to name the Humboldt Sports 2024 high school award winners.
As always, we will be naming our high school team of the year and coach of the year, as well as our boys and girls athletes of the year for the Big 5 and Little 4.
First up, a big thank you to this year’s award sponsors for their support.
This year’s sponsors include Mendes Supply, DelReka Distributing, Bode Construction, The Humboldt Fence Company, and Chris Prior of Coldwell Banker Cutten Realty, whose generosity ensures all six award winners will receive trophies to honor their accomplishments.
The award finalists will all be announced in the coming days, with the winners set to be named within the next couple of weeks.
And as always, there are plenty of worthy candidates after another year of memorable accomplishments in local high school sports.
In addition to the two H-DNL state championship teams this past year, the H-DNL also saw several programs take home North Coast Section championships, as well as numerous big individual performances on multiple sports fronts.
Last year’s winners included Eureka’s Jamin Guilbert and Kira Morris as Big 5 boys and girls athletes of the year, as well as Hoopa’s Gerard Marshall and St. Bernard’s Madelyn Shanahan as the Little 4 boys and girls athletes of the year.
The 2023/24 team of the year went to Del Norte football, while Arcata baseball coach Troy Ghisetti was named the coach of the year.
Who will win the awards this year? No doubt, there are several worthy candidates in all six categories.
Stay tuned …
