VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — SB girls win with speed, power and strong defense

By Ray Hamill — Bring on the Eagles.

On Tuesday evening the St. Bernard’s Crusaders booked their place in this year’s Division-5 North Coast Section championship game after an impressive 4-0 win over Lower Lake in Samoa.

And they won with some timely hitting, some exciting base running, some solid pitching and some outstanding defense.

All in all, it was a good performance and a great team win for a group of players that are peaking at just the right time.

Check out some of the game highlights above, including a game-clinching double play.

Second baseman Emma Mowery cleanly gathered a ground ball, tagged a Lower Lake runner and threw to first baseman Kiara McGinnis to complete the double play.

And then the celebrations began.

The SB girls will now play Berean Christian in this weekend’s Division-5 championship showdown, most likely on Friday, although that has yet to be confirmed.

The Eagles also won their semifinal on Tuesday, beating Clear Lake, the top seeds in the bracket, 7-3 on the road.

It was the Eagles’ second straight road playoff win against a higher seed, so they should be a tough opponent, as you would expect in any NCS championship game.

Also at stake in this weekend’s big showdown will be a place in next week’s CIF state NorCal playoffs.

The Crusaders will be hoping to join Little 4 rival South in the NorCals for the first time in school history.
