By Ray Hamill — The H-DNL has announced dates for this year’s Charles Lakin league tournaments in baseball and softball.
The annual tournaments are an exciting part of the local high school seasons and will take place as always at the Arcata Sports Complex (softball) and at the Arcata Ball Park (baseball).
Both tournaments will get under way on the evening of Tuesday May 7 and conclude with both championship games three nights later.
Both tournaments will feature the top three teams in both the Big 5 and Little 4, with the four conference champions all receiving a first-round bye.
The opening round will see the No. 2 seeds in the Big 5 playing the No. 3 seeds in the Little 4 and vice versa.
All four semifinals will take place on Thursday May 9 and will feature the No. 1 seeds in the Big 5 and Little 4 against the winners of Tuesday’s opening rounds.
The Tuesday and Thursday baseball games will take place at 4 and 7 p.m., while the Tuesday and Thursday softball games will be played at 5 and 7 p.m.
The softball championship is set for 5 p.m. on Friday May 10, followed by the baseball championship game at 7 p.m. on the same night just a few blocks away.
No school passes will be allowed, but league and North Coast Section passes will be honored.
Admission prices will be the same as regular H-DNL ticket prices — $6 and $3 for all games.
The higher seeds in each game will be the home team and the schedule may be adjusted to accommodate travel for Del Norte, Hoopa or South Fork teams.
The Fortuna Huskies are the defending baseball tournament champions, while the Eureka Loggers are the defending softball tournament champions.
The Eureka Loggers are the defending Charles Lakin softball tournament champions.
