The Fortuna girls wasted little time bouncing back from a tough doubleheader at Crescent City over the weekend.
On Tuesday evening they hosted St. Bernard’s in a non-league softball game and ran out to a comfortable 16-1 win in five innings.
Sophomore Isabel Sanchez was dominant once again in the circle for the Huskies on her way to the victory.
Sanchez pitched four scoreless innings and struck out eight while walking four, before junior Myra Hayes came in to close out the game.
Sanchez also had a good game at the plate and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while teammate Mariah Bravo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Faith Helms was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Hayes also went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, as the Huskies finished with 11 team hits and walked 10 times.
Bailee White and Kyna Tupua each had a base hit for the visitors, with the latter also making a great catch in left field for one of the defensive highlights of the game.
Her older sister Sahara Tupua also had a good game defensively in center field.
With the win, the Huskies improved to 9-5 on the season, while the Crusaders dropped to 6-5.
Next up, both teams will resume conference play.
The Crusaders will play a make-up Little 4 doubleheader at Hoopa on Friday, while the Huskies will open a three-game series against the Tigers at Arcata next Wednesday.
