The Arcata Tigers returned to winning ways at the Shasta tournament on Wednesday.
After dropping their fifth straight game against Enterprise in the morning by a score of 7-1, the Tigers responded with a 9-3 win over Lassen later in the day.
They closed out tournament play 2-1 and are now 5-6-2 on the season.
And head coach Troy Ghisetti was happy with the way his players responded in the second game of the day.
“I thought that after losing in a bad game against Enterprise — we did not play very well — the kids bounced back and stayed focused against Lassen, which is a good team,” Ghisetti said. “We swung the bats pretty well.”
Ben Lukens pitched five innings for the win on the mound and gave up just two earned runs.
The junior pitcher allowed nine walks and struck out two, with Tanner Kees pitching the final inning before ether game was called after six because of a thunder storm in the area.
The pitchers got more than enough offensive support.
Alex Greenway continued to impress at the plate and finished 3-for-3, while his brother Eli Greenway was 2-for-2 and Kees went 2-for-3.
Anthony Ebert and Finn Warner each also had a base hit in the win.
Warner also had a pair of hits in the loss to Enterprise, finishing 2-for-3, while Ebert, Kees and Charlie Mager each went 1-for-3.
Jonah O’Brien took the loss on the mound.
Next up, the Tigers will resume conference play when they conclude a three-game series against the Loggers in Eureka on April 10.
