The Corsairs’ memorable playoff run came to an end on Saturday night, as they lost their California Sweet 16 game at College of the Sequoias in Visalia.

The College of the Redwoods men fell 70-55.

With the loss, the CR men closed out their season with a record of 19-12.

The playoff run included back-to-back road wins against higher seeds, but the No, 22 Corsairs were unable to make it three straight upsets against No. 3 Sequoias.

CR head coach Ryan Bisio was unable to attend the game after coming down with a bad fever on Friday night.

Without their head coach in attendance, the Corsairs trailed for much of the early part of the game and the Giants opened up a 24-12 lead 11 minutes in.

The visitors, however, began to settle into the game and were 11 points adrift at halftime (38-29).

The early part of the second half belonged to the Corsairs, who began to narrow the gap further, battling back to tie the game at 53-53 with 8:14 remaining.

Unfortunately for the Corsairs, however, they would manage just two more points the remainder of the way as the Giants closed out on a 17-2 run to end the game long before the final buzzer sounded.

This was the Corsairs’ third trip to the state Sweet 16 in four seasons under Bisio, and the third third time they fell just shy of a trip to the Elite Eight state tournament.
