By Ray Hamill — Three Big 5 girls basketball games scheduled for Wednesday evening have been moved from Eureka to Fortuna.
The freshmen, JV and varsity showdowns between the Loggers and Huskies were originally scheduled to take place in the new Jay Willard Gymnasium at Eureka, but have been moved to Fortuna because of a scheduling conflict.
The second round of games between the two schools on Jan. 25 will now take place at Eureka instead of Fortuna.
The Eureka varsity girls are 1-0 in the Big 5 after a conference opening win over Del Norte last week, while the Huskies are 0-2 after dropping back-to-back games against Arcata and McKinleyville.
Wednesday’s action gets under way with the freshmen game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the JVs at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30.
South Fork boys win on the road
The South Fork boys ended a two-game losing streak with a non-league victory at Calistoga on Tuesday night.
The Cubs won the game 55-30 to go to 13-5 on the season.
South Fork will be back in action in a Little 4 showdown at Ferndale on Thursday night.
Both teams will be looking for their first conference win after each dropped their L4 openers last week.
South Fork fell to St. Bernard’s 62-35 and Ferndale lost to Hoopa 51-45.
Radio broadcasts
The Beat 95.1 FM (formerly MIX 95.1) will broadcast a pair of games live later this week.
Tag Wotherspoon will be on hand to call the action from Fortuna’s game at Del Norte on Thursday night, as both teams look for their first conference win.
The Huskies are off to a disappointing 0-3 start in the Big 5, while the Warriors are 0-2.
Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with the pre-game show starting at 7:15.
The game will also be broadcast live on KPOD 97.9 FM, as well as on DelNortesports.com.
Wotherspoon and The Beat crew will also carry a non-league showdown between St. Bernard’s and McKinleyville on Saturday.
The game will take place at St. Bernard’s and tips off at 7 p.m.

The Fortuna girls will host Eureka on Wednesday night.
