A Cal Poly Humboldt comeback fell just short in the final seconds at San Francisco State on Saturday afternoon as the Jacks fell 60-57 in men’s basketball.
The loss was the third straight for the struggling Jacks, who dropped to 0-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Jacks had an opportunity to tie the game in the final seconds, but a well defended shot from Brandon Bento-Jackson rattled in and out of the hoop and the home team held on the win.
The Humboldt men have lost seven of their last eight games, including a 78-67 defeat at Cal State East Bay on Thursday, and are now 3-9 on the season.
Rob Diaz III scored a team-high 20 points in Saturday’s loss, while teammate Ramiah Adedigba added 19 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Former Arcata Tiger Brandon Bento-Jackson scored 10 points in Thursday’s loss.
The Cal Poly women fared better on Saturday and ended a four-game losing streak with a comfortable 65-33 win at San Francisco.
Three Humboldt players finished in double digits in scoring, ,including Emilia Long, who scored a game-high 17 points and Marley Johnson, who added 15 points.
On Thursday, the Jacks fell 54-47 at Cal State East Bay.
The Humboldt women are now 3-4 in conference and 5-6 overall.
Both Lumberjacks teams will return home to play Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday.
The women tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
