The Ferndale Wildcats got a boost ahead of league play with a big road win at Laytonville in boys basketball on Wednesday night.
The Cats, who tip off the Little 4 at Hoopa on Thursday night, won 70-26 with every player seeing time on the court and every player scoring.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for a Ferndale team that got a late start to the season after the school’s historic playoff run in football.
“It’s good to see everybody buy a bucket, but I remind my guys what it means to be a complete player,” head coach Tristen Waters said. “So we focused on our discipline and playing basketball at a high level.”
Prescott Langer led the offense with 16 points in the win, as the Wildcats improved to 3-6, while Thomas Fergison finished with 13 points.
“Prescott Langer is our most strong willed player. He is simply gonna get his, game in and game out,” said Waters, who added that Fergison “has been instrumental to our offensive production. It was great to see him score inside tonight.”
Issak Kasso and Omar Amador each also had eight points in the win.
Waters praised Kasso for being “more aggressive offensively in the second half,” while Amador gave his team spark off the bench with a couple of big 3-pointers.
The Wildcats will be hoping to carry that momentum into Thursday’s league opener in Hoopa, which is always a tough environment to play at.
“We are lookin forward to the big test in Hoopa,” Waters said. “I’m looking for big energy and an amazing atmosphere.”
