The Crusaders closed out four days of tournament play with a 60-54 win over Edna Karr in girls basketball on Saturday to clinch third place at the Louisiana Shootout.
The St. Bernard’s girls won three of their four games in New Orleans and are now 10-2 on the season as they get set to open league play next Friday.
“I am super proud of the girls,” head coach Matt Tomlin said after Saturday’s win. “They took on the challenge of traveling across the country and competing against athletic teams they had never faced before.
“The girls played tough, they battled for four games, they represented St. Bernard’s and the H-DNL well, and they brought home the third-place trophy.”
Laila Florvilus continued her outstanding season with another strong performance in Saturday’s win and finished with a team-high 24 points.
The standout junior was named to the all-tournament team.
Teammate Madelyn Shanahan also had a big tournament and finished with 17 points on Saturday, while also dominating in the paint all week and blocking approximately 40 shots over the four games.
Freshmen Samantha Sundberg also continued to grow in stature and added eight points on Saturday, while Alyssa Boham chipped in five points and Jocelyn Sundberg added four points.

Is this a first for distance of travel before post-season begins?
If a school team gets shorted later because of funding, this trip had better been paid for 100% by parents of basketball team players, the head coach and team staff… all of whom made the decision to compete… like a travel team competition instead of local league competition… private schools have their advantages…
