Date and venue finalized for Ferndale’s state bowl game

By Ray Hamill — The date, time and venue has been confirmed for Ferndale’s big state bowl game this weekend.

One week after dominating Portola in the Division 7-AA NorCal regional championship game at the Redwood Bowl, the Wildcats will travel to Southern California to play for a first-ever state championship.

The Cats will take on Fairfax out of Los Angeles in the bowl game, which will be played at El Camino College in Torrance.

The showdown will take place on Friday afternoon, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.

The Ferndale players and coaches will leave for Torrance on Wednesday morning and will receive another big send-off by the community.

The team has captured the imagination of Ferndale fans and football fans across the North Coast as they look to secure a first-ever state championship for the school.

Ferndale is looking to become the third H-DNL school to win a state championship in football.

Fortuna won a state title in 2017 and St. Bernard’s took home state championships in 2015 and 2019.

Both Ferndale and Fairfax are 10-4 on the season.

The Cats defeated Portola 32-7 at the Redwood Bowl on Friday night.

  1. Portola had to travel the width of California to play Ferndale,

now Ferndale gets to travel nearly 2/3 length of California to play the bye team in the 3 team State playoff…

if Fairfax is any good, gonna be a rough and tough road game… like Portola had… long distance travel wears on ya…
