Jahmil Rippy leads the way as Loggers top Shasta, go to 2-0

The Loggers improved to 2-0 on the new season with a 75-70 win over Shasta in boys basketball at Eureka on Monday night.

Jahmil Rippy continued his oppressive start to the season and led the home team with 21 points as the Eureka boys overcame three players fouling out.

“(Rippy) controlled the game throughout with his play and ball protection,” Eureka head coach Jimmy Rodgers said of the junior guard. 

Sophomore guard Prince Latimer also continued his fast start to the new season and finished with 16 points, while senior forward Nelson Botzler-Washington had 11 points and junior Will Mooney chipped in 10.

Trenton Gerber and Will Mooney also played key roles in the win, with each nailing 2 of 2 free throw attempts in the final minute to help seal the victory.

Senior Alek Elo scored a game-high 27 points for the Wolves, while teammate Carter Audino had 15 points and Shakespeare Taylor had 14.

The 0-1 Wolves will play at McKinleyville on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.

The Loggers will play at Petaluma on Thursday night.
