Panthers beat Lassen to close out Las Plumas tournament

The McKinleyville Panthers wil carry some momentum into next week’s home opener in boys basketball after a good showing at this week’s Las Plumas tournament.

The Panthers closed out tournament play with a 2-1 record after defeating Lassen 65-21 on Wednesday.

Jordan Brown and Cole Armstrong were both named all-tournament for McKinleyville.

Brown scored a team-high 15 points in Wednesday’s win, while Armstrong finished with 12 and Bode Douglass chipped in 11.

“The team showed great improvement on both ends of the court,” head coach Chris Davis. “The defense intensity was high all night and they rose to each challenge the coaches put in.

“All around a great team effort as everyone up and down the bench put in solid minutes.”

Sixth man Justin Wells also has impressed for the Mack boys early in the season.

“He has been a huge lift night in and night out,” Davis said of the senior guard.

The Panthers will play Shasta in their home opener on Tuesday before hosting their annual tournament from Thursday to Saturday.

The tournament will include teams from Sacramento, the Bay Area and Oregon, as well as Hoopa and Arcata.
