Mason Railsback capped three good days at the Mendocino tournament with another big performance for the College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team in a 79-69 win over Siskiyous on Saturday.
Railsback scored a team-high 18 points to key a second-half rally that saw the Corsairs overcome a six-point halftime deficit on the way to their second straight win.
The former Arcata Tiger was named to the all-tournament team.
“We found our stride offensively in that second half,” head coach Ryan Bisio said. “Mason was phenomenal today and all weekend. He put his fingerprints all over the second half.”
Another former Arcata Arcata Tiger, Kai Purcell, also scored 18 points in the win, while Trey Neff and Jett Cheong each finished with 16 points.
“Kai made a couple of crucial 3s down the stretch,” Bisio said. “He was a warrior. He bit off a big assignment on the defensive end today too and played magnificently.”
A third Arcata High graduate also had a big impact in the win.
“(Garrett Hall’s) physicality and toughness in the first half was much needed,” the CR coach added of the 2020 Tigers graduate. “And his shotmaking was a major bonus.”
With the win, CR closed out tournament play 2-1 and improved to 3-5 on the season.
The Corsairs will return home to begin a five-game homestand, which begins against Simpson University JV on Nov. 27.
