VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — Simoni scores three TDs in playoff win

By Ray Hamill — St. Bernard’s senior Wyatt Simoni has been playing at an elite level all season and that continued to be the case on Saturday in a playoff win over Terra Linda at Crusader Field.

Simoni and his teammate wasted little time setting the tone and scored four first-half TDs on the way to opening up a 31-7 halftime lead.

The home team would add two more TDs on their first two possessions of the second half and won the game 45-7.

Simoni scored three rushing touchdowns in the win and he now has 30 for the season.

Check out all three of Simoni’s TDs above, as well as a 34-yard Luke Brunton TD run and a 16-yard TD pass from Brunton to Garrett Shanahan, who made a nice catch in the corner of the end zone on the play.

Rounding out the scoring, junior running back Luis Malko-Allen took a pitch from Brunton and threw a 69-yard TD pass to Tyler Maples on a trick play.

The win sends the Crusaders on to this weekend’s NCS Division-5 semifinals, where the No. 2 seeds will host No. 3 Analy at Crusader Field on Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Three other local teams remain in the chase for an NCS championship and all three will be in action this weekend.

On Friday night, Ferndale will play at No. 1 Clear Lake in Division 7.

The Wildcats, who on the road at St. Helena in their playoff opener, are seeded No. 5.

On Saturday afternoon, the South Fork Cubs will play in the NCS eight-person Division-1 final when they travel to play Stuart Hall at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

The Cubs are seeded No. 2 in the bracket, while Stuart Hall is No. 1.

And rounding out a busy Saturday afternoon, in Division 6, No. 4 Fortuna will play at No. 1 St. Vincent de Paul, also at 1 p.m.
