Six Rivers Youth Football semifinals set for Sunday

By Ray Hamill — The Ferndale Mustangs will be well represented in the Six Rivers Youth Football Conference semifinals this weekend.

A total of 12 teams will compete for a spot in one of three championship games, which will be held in Eureka next week.

And the Mustangs are the only program with a chance to make it to all three finals.

Interestingly, the top four seeds in all three divisions will play in the semifinals, which will be held in Ferndale and Fortuna on Sunday.

In the Single-A bracket, Ferndale has the No. 1 seed after going 7-0 during the regular season and will play No. 4 Eureka at Ferndale High School at 9:30 a.m.

The No. 4 seeds shut out Eel River Valley 35-0 in last weekend’s quarterfinal.

No. 3 Del Norte Gold also won last week, defeating Del Norte Blue 12-7 to advance to play No. 2 McKinleyville at Fortuna High, also at 9:30 a.m.

In the AA bracket, Eel River Valley was a perfect 7-0 during the regular season and earned the top seed.

ERV will play No. 4 Del Norte Gold in the semis on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Fortuna High.

Del Norte defeated Eureka 19-6 in last weekend’s quarterfinal.

The second AA semifinal will see No. 2 McKinleyville play No. 3 Ferndale at Ferndale High after the Mustangs defeated Hoopa 26-6 in last week’s quarterfinal.

And rounding out a busy day of games, in the AAA bracket No. 1 Ferndale is 7-0 and will host No. 4 Hoopa at Ferndale High at 1:30 p.m.

Hoopa shut out McKinleyville 28-0 last week.

No. 2 Eureka will play No. 3 Eel River at Fortuna High also at 1:30 after Eel River won its quarterfinal against Del Norte by a score of 29-6.
