VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — Watch the incredible conclusion to NCS decider

By Ray Hamill — A thrilling North Coast Section Division-1 girls soccer final went down to the final seconds at Albee Stadium on Wednesday night.

Eureka and Fortuna, two teams that know each other well, battled all the way to the final whistle in as entertaining a championship game as we’ve seen here on the North Coast in some time.

And when all was said and done, it was the Eureka Loggers who walked away with a third consecutive section championship and a fourth in five postseasons.

Barely.

The final score was 2-1 with both teams scoring in the final few minutes and also creating some wonderful scoring opportunities right at the end.

You can check out some of the game highlights above, including all three goals and a thrilling conclusion to the game, as well as the postseason celebrations.

Trailing by a goal for most of the second half, the Huskies tied things up with just 90 seconds remaining in regulation on a well-placed penalty kick converted by the ice cool Raigan Brooks.

Just seconds later the Huskies almost took the lead, only to see the ball miss the target by mere inches.

Less than a minute later, it was the Loggers who almost scored at the other end, only to be denied.

And still we weren’t done, with the Eureka girls creating one final opportunity, this time resulting in what would be the winning goal.

Both teams gave it their all and played their hearts out.

  1. Penalty Kick infraction: what did we see…a defender that got down low, both legs parallel, tight and uniform, slide in front of ball, while attacker went over and down… no foul, clean slide tackle in the penalty box imho…, unless ref saw something not in video angle!

That written, defender was silly, had support of 2 teammates right there no need to get down like that at edge of penalty area.
