One day after a disappointing season opener against Sacramento City, the College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team bounced back to record their first win of the season at the Napa Valley tournament on Friday night.

The Corsairs defeated Folsom Lake 75-65 and improved to 1-1.

“Our guys dug deep tonight for the victory,” head coach Ryan Bisio said. “It certainly wasn’t pretty, but we started to find our stride defensively in that second half.”

Returning Golden Valley Conference MVP Trey Neff continued to impress for the Corsairs and finished with a team-high 33 points, including nailing six 3-pointers.

“Trey was steady and if it’s even possible to have a quiet 33 points, he did,” Bisio said.

Trey’s twin brother Ty also impressed as did newcomer Mason Mottashed.

Ty Neff finished with 13 points, while Mottashed chipped in 11.

“Mason Mottashed had a brilliant contribution tonight and glued together the lineup which was most effective for us,” Bisio said.

The CR men will close out tournament play against Diablo Valley College on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Diablo Valley is 0-1.
