
Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics
A 2-0 win over Sonoma State in women’s soccer on Thursday has secured a playoff spot for Cal Poly Humboldt.
The Jacks are seeded No. 5 for the California Collegiate Athletic Association postseason tournament, which kicks off this weekend.
Humboldt will play at No. 4 Cal State Stanislaus on Sunday at noon.
Emma McChristie and Emilia Long each scored in Thursday’s win.
Long’s goal was her eighth of the season, which is tied for the CCAA lead, and she also has a team-best six assists.
With the win, the Jacks closed out the regular season with a record of 12-4-2.
They finished fifth in the CCAA with a record of 6-4-1.
Former Eureka Logger Klayre Barres also will compete in the postseason tournament.
Barries, who is a junior with Chico State, and her teammates finished one spot behind the Jacks in conference in sixth place and secured the No. 6 seed.
The Wildcats will open at No. 3 Cal State Los Angeles, also on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Cal Poly Pomona placed first in the CCAA, with Cal State San Marcos second.
The top two teams will receive a first-round bye for the CCAA tournament.
