The St. Bernard’s girls are moving on in the North Coast Section volleyball playoffs after winning their postseason opener on Saturday night.

The Little 4 champions, who had an opening-round bye in the Division-6 bracket, got the better of Anderson Valley in their quarterfinal at St. Bernard’s, winning 25-14, 25-10, 25-16.

The Del Norte girls, meanwhile, saw a memorable season come to an end in a five set loss in Division 4.

The Warriors, who were seeded No. 7, lost at No. 2 Justin-Siena by a score of 25-17, 20-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-10.

The Del Norte girls, who won the Big 5 with an 8-0 record, led the Napa school after the opening three sets but the home team would rally for the victory, pulling out a two-point win in the fourth set to remain alive.

Justin-Siena now advances to play No. 3 Marin Academy.

The match at SB wasn’t as close, with the Little 4 champs comfortably taking the win to extend their season.

They also are now guaranteed a berth in this year’s NorCal playoffs, which get under way after the NCS postseason.

Madelyn Shanahan led the way in Saturday’s win with a team-high 17 kills.

Teammate Jocelyn Sundberg added 11 kills while Ella Hart chipped in seven kills and Sahara Tupua dished out 45 assists.

St. Bernard’s will host No. 5 San Domenico in Wednesday’s Division-6 semifinal, with the match set for 7 p.m.

The Crusaders are now 16-9 on the season.
