Finck leads the way as SB girls get first team win at Baywood

Submitted photos – Hannah Finck, right, posted her second win in three rounds at Baywood on Monday.

St. Bernard’s senior Hannah Finck is closing out her high school career with a bang.

The Crusaders standout had the low score of the day in the sixth round of H-DNL girls golf in rainy conditions at the Baywood Golf & Country Club on Monday.

Finck shot a 105 to beat the field by four strokes and led the Crusaders to their first team win of the season.

The SB senior has been the hottest golfer in league play over the past three rounds, two of which she won with a second-place finish at the Redwood Empire Golf & Country Club sandwiched in between.

The 105 was her second best score of the season.

Del Norte’s Sophia Jager had the second best round of the day with a 109 for her highest finish of the season.

Once again four different schools were represented in the top four, showcasing the balance in league this season.

Eureka’s Mia Lopez and McKinleyville’s Neyr-res Bartoo tied for third with identical rounds of 117, followed by St. Bernard’s Ingrid Monaghan and Estella Monaghan, who each shot a 122 to give the Crusaders three of the top six scores on the day.

The SB girls shot 477 as a team to comfortably take the victory, with Eureka (527), Del Norte (530) and Arcata (534) rounding out the top four.

It was just the second time in six league rounds that the Arcata girls were denied the team victory, but they remain well in control of the race for the season championship with an 84-stroke lead heading into next week’s final round of league play.

The race for second, however, is an exciting one, with just three strokes separating Eureka (2961) and St. Bernard’s (2964).

Eureka’s Kate Fazio and Arcata’s Lily Cunningham each shot a 123 on Monday to tie for seventh, followed by Del Norte’s Charley Tygart (124) and Arcata’s Madyson Nelson (126).

Nelson remains in control of the season championship with a 15-stroke lead over Finck, who moved up one spot into second.

Bartoo is third in the season standings, seven strokes behind Finck, followed by Tygart and Lopez, who are 11 strokes further back and tied for fourth.

The top seven girls will receive all-league honors.

The H-DNL season will conclude at the seventh and final round of league competition on Monday at Baywood.
