Warriors shut out the Loggers in final pre-league game for both

By Ray Hamill — The Del Norte Warriors will head into league play in two weeks with a little momentum.

On Saturday, they won their third straight game, traveling to Albee Stadium and coming away with a 21-0 non-league win over the Eureka Loggers.

This was the final pre-league game for both Big 4 schools, each of which will have a bye next weekend before opening league play against each other, this time in Crescent City.

With the victory, the Warriors close out their pre-league schedule with a record of 4-2, while the Loggers remain winless and dropped to 0-7.

This was far from a blowout, however, with the Loggers remaining in contention until a late pick six by Del Norte linebacker Colton Schaad, who returned the ball 20 yards to the end zone.

Just one week after rushing for 348 yards against Oakland Tech, the Warriors found the going a lot tougher against their league rivals and amassed just 141 yards on the ground on 40 carries.

They opened the scoring late in the first quarter when quarterback Kyle Dixon completed a 25-yard TD pass to Isaac Lopez.

Del Norte added a second TD with three minutes remaining in the half, when William McCovey scored on a six-yard run.

For the game, the Loggers had 126 yards offense, including 71 through the air, while the Warriors 202 yards of offense, including 61 through the air.

Benjamin Borges led the Del Norte ground attack with 55 yards on 17 carries.

The Warriors also won the JV game, 31-6.
