Arcata’s Madyson Nelson posted the low score for the third time in five rounds of league play at the Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club on Monday.

Nelson shot a 102 to lead the field by four strokes and solidified her lead in the season standings.

The Arcata golfer leads the H-DNL by 22 strokes with just two rounds of league competition remaining and she appears well on her way to a league championship.

So too do the Tigers, who also stretched their lead in the team season standings.

The Arcata girls took the team win on Monday by 32 strokes and have opened up a sizable 91 stroke lead after winning four of the first five rounds.

St. Bernard’s Hannah Finck also impressed on Monday.

One week after posting her first career league win, Finck placed second to Nelson with a round of 106.

Five different schools were represented in the top five, with McKinleyville’s Near-res Bartoo third with a round of 109, followed by Eureka’s Mia Lopez (112) and Del Norte’s Charley Tygart (114).

Tygart, who has tied for low score twice this season, remains second in the season standings and in a close battle with Finck and Bartoo.

Tygart has a season total of 413, with Finck one stroke back and Bartoo just three strokes behind her.

Arcata’s Toni Diaz also impressed on Monday, shooting a 115 for sixth best score on the day, with teammate Lily Cunningham (120), St. Bernard’s Ingrid Monahan (124), Arcata’s Ash Osceola (125) and McKinleyville’s Addie Morrison (127) rounding out the top 10.

The H-DNL girls will be back in action at the Baywood Golf and Country Club on Monday.

Eureka is second in the team season standings, followed by McKinleyville in third, St. Bernard’s in fourth and Del Norte in fifth.
