By Ray Hamill — Four local high school football teams have a bye this weekend, including three that will begin league play next weekend.

Five other H-DNL teams, however, will be in action, with all five playing on Friday night.

And that includes two games here on the North Coast.

Up in Crescent City, the Del Norte Warriors will return to action when they host McKinleyville.

The Warriors had a bye last weekend and are 1-2 on the season, while a short-handed McKinleyville roster is 0-3.

The game is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on KPOD 97.9 FM, as well as through DelNorteSports.com.

The Eureka Loggers are also looking for their first win of the season this weekend, as they get set to host Piner at Albee Stadium.

Piner is 2-1 and is coming off a bye, having lost 7-0 to San Rafael the previous weekend.

Kickoff in Eureka is at 7:30 p.m.

The Fortuna Huskies, meanwhile, will look to keep their impressive start to the season going when they travel to play Foothill.

The Huskies are 4-0, while the Cougars are 2-1 and coming off a bye last week, having beaten Lassen 34-14 two weeks ago.

The game will be broadcast live on MIX 95.1 FM.

The Huskies will travel to play Foothill on Friday night.

And rounding out Friday night’s action, the South Fork Cubs will try to get their first win of the season when they travel to Richmond to play Kennedy High.

The Cubs are 0-4, while the Eagles are 3-1 and coming off a 22-20 win at Healdsburg last week.

St. Bernard’s (4-0), Ferndale (2-2), Arcata (2-2) and Hoopa (1-3) all have byes this week.

The latter three will kick off the Little 4 next week, with Ferndale hosting McKinleyville and Arcata hosting Hoopa.

College of the Redwoods, meanwhile, will try to bounce back from last weekend’s loss to West Hills Coalinga when the Corsairs travel to play Monterey Peninsula on Saturday afternoon.

CR is 2-1, while Monterey is unbeaten at 2-0.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

The Ferndale Wildcats have a bye this weekend before opening league play next week.
