The Huskies continued to roll at both the varsity and JV levels over the weekend, sweeping both games against Ferndale on Milk Can Night.
While the Fortuna varsity won 37-6, the school’s JVs got the better of a short-handed Ferndale team 38-8 for a third straight win.
The two Fortuna teams are a combined 7-1 this fall, including a 3-1 mark by the JVs, who haven’t lost since falling to University Prep by one point on opening night.
Friday’s loss was the first of the season for the Wildcats, who were without five starters.
Ferndale dropped to 3-1 but will still be considered favorites to win the Little 4 when league play opens next week.
Elsewhere, the Eureka JVs got their second win of the season, beating Justin-Siena 48-6 and improving to 2-2.
While the Loggers have struggled at the varsity level this year, the JVs have been far more competitive and now have wins over Arcata and Justin-Siena.
The St. Bernard’s JVs also won over the weekend, getting the better of Arcata 40-6.
The win was the first for the young Crusaders since opening weekend and was a nice response to a loss at Biggs the previous weekend.
St. Bernard’s is now 2-1-1, while Arcata remains winless at 0-3, but the Tigers are showing improvement.

“We’re getting better every game,” Arcata head coach Matt Jioras said. “We’re young at every position, but I couldn’t be prouder of the guys.”
The McKinleyville JVs also are 0-3 after a 41-0 loss at University Prep on Friday night.
The Hoopa Warriors fared better and got their first win of the season in their home opener against Trinity.
The Warriors won 36-6 and are now 1-2 on the season.
The Del Norte Warriors, meanwhile, had a bye this past weekend and remain 1-1.
