Four different schools were represented in the top four in the latest round of H-DNL girls golf at Del Norte on Thursday.
Arcata’s Madyson Nelson continued to set the pace with a round of 94, trying Del Norte’s Charley Tygart for low score on the day.
It was the second win in two rounds of league play for Nelson, who enjoyed an eight-stroke victory in round one at Beau Pre last week.
Eureka’s Mia Lopez was just one stroke behind Nelson and Tygart on Thursday with a round of 95, followed by McKinleyville’s Neyr-Res Bartoo, who shot a 107, and Arcata’s Ash Osceola just one stroke further back.
Thanks in large part to Nelson and Osceola, Arcata took the team win for the second straight week as the Tigers extended their lead in the season standings.
After beating St. Bernard’s by just four strokes last week, the Tigers shot a combined 439 at Del Norte, an improvement of 70 strokes.
McKinleyville had the second best team score of the day (447), with Eureka (467), Del Norte (502) and St. Bernard’s (556) rounding out the top five.
McKinleyville’s Julie Omaha finished with a round of 112, which was the sixth best individual performance of the day.
St. Bernard’s Ingrid Monahan (113) placed seventh, followed by McKinleyville’s Jackson Bartoo and Keely Childs, who each shot a 114.
McKinleyville had four golfers place in the top nine.
Arcata’s Lily Cunningham and Del Norte’s Sophia Jager and Madi Calleja all tied for 10th with rounds of 115.
Sophia Campbell led the Fortuna Huskies with a round of 117.
The next round of league play will be held at Eureka.
