The Eureka senior captains continued to set the tone for their teammates on the volleyball court in a four-set loss to Fort Bragg on Friday night.

The Eureka girls lost  20-25, 25-16, 21-25, 14-25.

Isis Poteet finished with seven kills and two blocks, while fellow captain Anisha Mae Rechelluul dished out 15 assists.

“Our captains lead the team with their energy, hustle and playing with heart,” head coach Stephanie Napoleon.

Freshman Alena Battle also continues to play a key role in her first year competing in high school.

“Alena is improving every game,” Napoleon said of Battle, who had five kills in the loss.

Ultimately, however, too many unforced errors proved costly as the Eureka girls were unable to carry the momentum from an exciting win over St. Bernard’s earlier in the week into Friday’s game.

The Loggers will try to bounce quickly at Saturday’s Arcata tournament.

And Napoleon is hoping her players will learn from the defeat and use it as a learning experience.

“We are resilient and this will hopefully motivate us to really work hard and give it our all (on Saturday) and in practice next week leading into league play,” she said.
