VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — ‘Hit another triple!’

By Ray Hamill — McKinleyville All-Star Crew Hicks got some good advice from one of his teammates right before his second at-bat on Tuesday.

And then he delivered big time for his team.

Playing in the 8-10 NorCal State Tournament at Hiller Park in Mack town, Hicks and the young McKinleyville All-Stars matched up against Aptos in an elimination game.

Aptos led 6-2 after three innings, with Hicks having driven in McKinleyville’s only runs on a first-inning triple.

In the top of the fourth, and with his team’s season on the line, Hicks stepped up for his second at-bat.

Right before the delivery, one of his teammates gave him some good advice from the dugout, shouting at him to “hit another triple!”

Hicks appeared to heed the advice and determinedly swung at the first pitch he saw, blasting the ball past the Aptos third baseman and into the outfield.

He didn’t quite make it a triple, but he got a double out of it and drove in two more runs, giving him four RBIs on the day.

Check out video footage of the play above, along with his teammate’s big call and another teammate shouting his congratulations afterwards.

Unfortunately for McKinleyville, Aptos would hold on for a 6-5 win in what was another exciting playoff game for these young Mack all-stars.

They finished the year with a District and Section championship double and made it all the way to the final four in NorCal state play.
