12s District Little League tournament gets under way in Arcata

The District 26 Little League 12-year-old All-Star Tournament got under way with a pair of games in Arcata on Saturday.

The six-team tournament will run at least through Thursday, with two more games scheduled for Sunday.

Opening day saw Redwood Empire take on Arcata and Southern Humboldt playing Eel River.

The Redwood Empire All-Stars won their game to set up a Sunday morning showdown against McKinleyville at 11 a.m.

Eel River won the second game 16-1 and will now play Klamath Trinity on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

Monday will feature a pair of elimination games in the double-elimination tourney, with games set for 4 and 6:15 p.m.

Two more games will take place on Tuesday, with another elimination showdown at 4 p.m. and a semifinal matchup in the winners’ bracket at 6:15 p.m.

A champion could be crowned as early as Thursday, with a possible winner-takes-all showdown on Friday night, if necessary.
