The Eureka Loggers received some good news when they traveled for the North Coast Section boys golf championships in Rohnert Park on Monday, with longtime Eureka coach Karen Griffith being named the section’s 2023 Boys Golf Honor Coach.
Griffith coached multiple sports at Eureka High for 40 years before stepping down as the boys golf coach in 2022, and she becomes the first H-DN coach to be named Boys Golf Honor Coach since Eureka’s Keith Darling back in 1992 and only the second ever.
Her coaching career at Eureka began in 1982 and she has coached basketball, soccer, track and field and girls and boys golf.
She led the Eureka boys to four straight H-DN golf pennants before stepping away last year, after previously guiding the Eureka girls to two league titles.
According to a press release announcing the news, “Griffith’s coaching philosophy is simply to instill the value of a positive mental attitude and to do your best to treat everyone with respect, especially your opponents.
“Work hard, put the team first and have a positive outlook.
“Besides coaching multiple sports, she also worked as a class advisor, YEAH (Youth Educating Against Homophobia) club advisor, AAU basketball coach and football announcer.”
