The Arcata Tigers took another big step toward completing their new baseball field after hosting their second annual baseball and softball golf Tournament at Baywood Golf and Country Club last month.
The event grossed $23K for both programs, with some of the funds going toward the new baseball field, which officially opened this spring but is still in need of some work.
“I thought it was a huge success,” longtime Arcata baseball head coach Troy Ghisetti said. “32 teams showed up, the community supported it, so it was a great time. The baseball and softball teams both need the money to finish their fields. I’ve got to say thank you to the community.”
The Tigers got some help from a league rival.
St. Bernard’s Esteban Cervantes, who was this year’s H-DN boys golf champion, competed along with Crusaders teammate Jack Kramer and coach Brian Dunlap.
The team, sponsored by Kathleen Bryson Law Firm, also included Josh Holmes and took first place after shooting a 55.
The winning team also raised some money for the St. Bernard’s program.
In second place was the team of Garth Bonimini, Ken Bonomini, Matt Dusi and Scott Egbert, which was sponsored by The Mill Yard and shot a 60.
In third place was a team sponsored by Kokatat in Arcata, which also shot a 60 but lost the tiebreaker to The Mill Yard.
The Kokatat team included Jordan Jones, Jeff Giacomini, Ryan Kerker and Jesse Hinton.
