By Ray Hamill — Several of this weekend’s Big 5 and Little 4 baseball and softball games have been brought forward because of expected weather conditions.

All four baseball doubleheaders that were supposed to take place on Saturday will now be played on Thursday and Friday instead.

On Thursday afternoon, co-Big 5 leaders Arcata will host Del Norte in a doubleheader at 2 p.m., while the South Fork boys will host Hoopa, also at 2 p.m.

The regular season concludes on Friday, with Eureka traveling to co-Big 5 leader Fortuna for a pair of games beginning at 2 p.m. and Little 4 champion St. Bernard’s hosting Ferndale at the Bear River Casino in a doubleheader that starts at 5:15 p.m.

The Tigers and Huskies are tied atop the Big 5 standings with identical 6-3 records, with three games each remaining.

Wednesday’s series openers will go ahead as scheduled, with Arcata traveling to Del Norte for a single game and Fortuna playing at Eureka.

Both games start at 4 p.m.

In softball, meanwhile, Del Norte and Eureka are both 7-2 and tied for the Big 5 lead with three games remaining each.

On Wednesday, as originally scheduled, the Warriors will open a three-game series at Arcata at 4 p.m., while the Loggers open their series against Fortuna at Washington Elementary school in Eureka, also at 4 p.m.

The Fortuna girls will play three games this week against Eureka.

The weekend softball doubleheaders, however, have been moved forward.

On Thursday, Del Norte and Arcata will now play two games in Crescent City beginning at 2 p.m., while the Loggers will play a doubleheader at Fortuna on Friday, also at 2 p.m

Also on Friday, the St. Bernard’s and Ferndale girls will close out league play with a doubleheader at the Bear River sports complex before the baseball doubleheader.

The busy day of action at Bear River gets under way with the first of the two softball games at 2 p.m.
