Corsairs top Siskiyous to end long losing streak

The College of the Redwoods baseball team got a much-needed win on Wednesday, topping Siskiyous 12-2 to end a 23-game losing streak.

The victory was the first in conference for the Corsairs and came in the opening game of a four-game season-concluding series in Weed this week.

The CR offense had 11 hits in the win, including four doubles, while Shadd Jones pitched all eight innings for the win on the mound.

Jones gave up just six hits and one walk in a strong performance, while striking out six.

Mateo Hamm, Cam Witte and Zach Cole each had two hits in the win, with doubles by Witte, Regan Nyberg, Dante Strazzullo and Grant Lesserre.

Parker Rodgers and Blake Browning each also had a hit in the win.

With the victory, the Corsairs improved to 1-21 in the Golden Valley Conference and 5-28 on the season.

Siskiyous dropped to 3-19 in the GVC and 10-26 overall.

The two teams play a doubleheader on Thursday and finish the series with a single game on Friday.
