Hailey Kroeker led the local charge once again in the third NorCal event of the year for the Humboldt Composite Mountain Bike Team (HCMTB) over the weekend.

The local riders traveled to Lake County to compete in sunny conditions at the Six Sigma Winery, with Kroeker securing her second straight podium finish.

Competing in the varsity girls race against some of the top competitors from throughout NorCal, Kroeker placed fifth, while continuing to inspire her teammates.

HCMTB’s Maggie Odell also continued to impress in the varsity girls competition and finished four spots further back in ninth.

Two local riders also fared well in the  sophomore boys race, with Ranger Code leading the local charge and placing 31st out of a field of 50, and teammate Nolan Kavanaugh just two spots further back in 33rd.

In the freshman boys race, HCMTB’s Dinan McIntosh also continued to shine in his first year competing and finished an impressive ninth, followed by teammate Sawyer Katri in 49th.

The local JV boys, meanwhile, had to overcome some adversity.

The start of their race was moved up 15 minutes and after some communication problems the HCMTB riders arrived late at the starting line, forcing them to move from the middle of the pack to the back.

But that seemed to inspire them, with Kai “Cowbell King” Lamb leading the charge and battling back to place 32nd out of 64 competitors, followed by teammates Itsuki Kitayama in 33rd and Nico Costanzo in 36th place.

Grayden Larsen placed 25th in a field of 42, while Landon Larsen placed 35th in his race.

The HCMTB riders will continue their season with the NorCal league semifinals in 10 days.
