H-DN teams eager to take advantage of an expected break in the weather

By Ray Hamill — Several H-DN schools will be hoping to take advantage of an expected break in the weather over the next couple of days after what has been a rainy spring sports season so far.

Most notably, the H-DN track and field teams will head to the Redwood Bowl on Wednesday afternoon to compete in the season-opening Humboldt Twilight Relays.

The meet will be hosted by Cal Poly Humboldt.

The action gets under way at 3 p.m. with the first of the field events, while the track events begin at 4 p.m.

Also on Wednesday afternoon , the Del Norte Warriors are scheduled to host the St. Bernard’s Crusaders in softball.

Game time is set for 4 p.m.

In baseball, meanwhile, four local teams will head south for the Fort Bragg tournament this week, with the action getting under way on Thursday.

The two-day tournament has been moved up from a Friday start and will feature eight teams in total, including Arcata, Hoopa, McKinleyville and St. Bernard’s.

The tourney is scheduled to wrap up on Friday.

Also in baseball, the Del Norte boys are scheduled to play at Grants Pass on Wednesday afternoon.

In softball, meanwhile, the McKinleyville and Eureka girls are scheduled to travel south for a pair of games each on Friday and Saturday.

The Panthers are scheduled to play at Tamalpais and San Marin, while the Loggers are scheduled to play at St. Helena and Napa.
