Tigers golf tournament to help offset costs of new facilities

By Ray Hamill — The Arcata Tigers will host their second annual baseball/softball golf tournament at Baywood Golf & Country Club next month.

The annual fundraiser will help offset costs for both programs, including going towards the new baseball field facilities.

The tournament will take place on April 16th and will feature a four-person scramble format.

Last year, the Tigers raised $20K at the tournament, which helped fund a new batting cage and dugouts for the new baseball field.

The Tigers will play their first official game at the new facility on Friday, when they host Hoopa at 1 p.m., weather permitting.

And longtime head coach Troy Ghisetti has expressed his appreciation to the local community for all their help.

“The community has been so supportive of athletics throughout the whole of Humboldt County,” he said. “The money we’ve raised has allowed us to transition this field into a ball park.”

More money, however, is needed to complete the project and Ghisetti is hoping this year’s golf tournament will help toward that goal.

The tournament gets under way at 11:30 a.m. and will feature live music after the event, with Ghost Train performing.

The cost for a team of four is $500, or individuals can sign up for $125.

The Tigers are also looking for various sponsors for the event.
