Seniors impress for the Loggers in season openers

The Eureka Loggers showed why they could be the team to beat in this year’s Big 5 with an impressive opening day in baseball on Friday.

Seniors Myles Standish and Rogan Bode led the way as the Loggers won a pair of road games, beating Analy 6-1 and Santa Rosa 9-2.

Standish, who is expected to be the top pitcher in the area this spring, got the win on the mound in game one, allowing just one hit in five innings against the Division-3 Tigers and striking out nine.

Bode, meanwhile, led the way at the plate and had three hits in each game, finishing the day 6-for-7 with five runs and an RBI.

Cooper Ohlsen got the win in game two, showcasing a potent one-two punch on the mound for the Loggers.

The junior allowed four hits in five innings against the Division-2 Panthers, while striking out four.

Freshman Ty Cawford also had a good day for Eureka, as did the team’s outfielders.

Crawford finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs against Santa Rosa in his first day of varsity action.

Outfielders Cole Zeller, Ean Savage, Robert Williams and Toa Ou all played well defensively.

“In both games they were tracking down balls and making it look easy,” head coach Shannan Rodgers said of the outfielders.

Ohlsen and Savage each also had a base hit in game one, while Zeller had a hit in game two.

Caden Vance returned to competition after missing the basketball season with an injury and finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs against Santa Rosa, while also seeing some time on the mound in relief in the opener.

Seth Grammar and Sebastian Standish each also were 1-for-3 with an RBI in game two.

Bode and Jorge Lopez both also looked impressive in relief.
