CR’s Sadie Hampton named state player of the week

CR Athletics – Sadie Hampton

By Ray Hamill — Sadie Hampton’s impressive start to the season for the College of the Redwoods softball team is getting her some statewide recognition.

The sophomore shortstop is enjoying an outstanding start to the season on both sides of the ball and was this week named as one of two California Community College Fastpitch Coaches players of the week.

Hampton, who hit her first college home run last week, had three hits on Wednesday to help the Corsairs to a doubleheader sweep over Yuba College in the team’s home openers.

For the season, she is batting .500 with 25 hits, seven doubles, three triples and seven stolen bases, all team highs and among the state leaders.

Last week, the in-form Hampton had six hits in a pair of wins at Mendocino College.

The former Eureka Logger has played a key role in leading the CR women to an 8-6 record through the early season.

Hampton and the Corsairs continue an eight-game home stand when they host Mendocino next Thursday at the Bear River Recreation Center.
