By Ray Hamill — Del Norte’s Adenne Schaad will leave a legacy on the local wrestling mats that will be hard to match.
The standout senior closed out a very impressive run in H-DN competition by winning a fourth consecutive individual championship at last weekend’s league championships, which were held at Fortuna.
Schaad was one of three Del Norte girls to win a league title, and one of four Warriors to advance to this weekend’s North Coast Section championships.
Teammates Tescha Gensaw and Channey Schaad each also won a league title, while Karlye Dodson placed third in her bracket.
All four Del Norte girls will compete at the section meet, which gets under way on Friday at Albany High School.
They weren’t the only local girls to have impressed at the league championships.
Fortuna teammates Chloe Cox and Lonna Torrez each won a third consecutive league crown, while Lindsey Bibby won her first league crown.
All three Huskies qualified for the big NCS meet as well, along with Abby Bibby, who reached the semifinals in her bracket at the H-DN championships.
“I expect they’re going to have a good showing there too,” Fortuna head coach Steven Stockdale said. “If they can keep their wits about them and perform mentally they’ll do fine.
Two Arcata girls, Allison Osceola and Kyla Berman, also placed second in their brackets at the league championships and qualified for the big section meet.
St. Bernard’s Rory Bickmore also won a league title for the Crusaders.
Humboldt Sports has reached out to the Eureka Loggers, but no details were immediately available on how their team performed at the league meet.
